The inaugural Leopard Awards took place in the Livery Hall at Goldsmiths’ Hall in aid of The Prince’s Trust. An initiative launched by leading figures from the world of British jewellery known as the London Leopards – Solange Azagury-Partridge, Susan Farmer, Theo Fennell, Shaun Leane, Stephen Webster and Carol Woolton - the Leopard Awards celebrated the creativity and craftsmanship of British jewellery as it honoured the wonder and desire that jewellery inspires in film, fashion and art.
The first awards ceremony took its name from the Leopard Hallmark that has been used to mark gold and silver pieces produced in London since 1363. The Goldsmiths’ Hall has been home to the British gold, silver and jewellery industry for over 700 years.
In an event celebrating the past, present and future of British jewellery and expertly presided over by compere, comedian and presenter Alexander Armstrong, the Leopard Awards also saw the launch of a new mentoring programme for emerging designers.
AWARD WINNERS
The Leopard Award for Jewellery in the Arts
Winner - The Victoria and Albert Museum
For their acquisition of a diamond and sapphire coronet designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria in 1840, the year of their marriage. Accepted by Richard Edgcumbe, Senior Curator at the V&A, the award was presented by acclaimed English actress Helen McCrory.

The Leopard Legend Award 2017
Winner - Sir Elton John CBE
Accepted on his behalf by his husband David Furnish. Presented by the BBC’s Claudia Winkleman.
The Leopard Award for Jewellery on Screen 2017
Winner - The Crown
Awarded to Netflix’s award winning hit series The Crown and accepted by English actress Vanessa Kirby. Presented by English film and theatre producer Robert Fox.

DIAMOND DESSERTS
Just as dessert was about to be served, Vogue's Jewellery Editor and London Leopard Carol Woolton took to the stage to announce that four guests who had discovered a gold star beneath their chocolate log were the lucky winners of a Forevermark cushion cut diamond from the Forevermark Black Label Collection. The four lucky winners will each have their diamonds set into a unique piece of jewellery designed by one of the four Leopards.
FUTURE STARS
During the course of the evening The Leopards announced a new mentorship programme with The Prince’s Trust where young craftspeople and budding jewellery designers will be awarded the opportunity to train in the workshops and studios of The London Leopards. The Leopard brief given to young designers, supported by the Prince’s Trust, was to design a piece of jewellery motivated by the spirit of London
The winning designs chosen will be produced under the guidance of the Leopards and sold at their own stores and boutiques
.Proceeds from sales will be donated to The Prince’s Trust.
